MIUI9 for Xiaomi and Redmi phones, will be launched on November 2nd in India. This is the Global version of the custom Android version, from the Chinese OEM.
Xiaomi India announced the news through Twitter, along with a hashtag which reads #LightningFast.
This happens to be the same hashtag, which was used last week for the teaser of a new Selfie phone series, from the company. That phone will also be launched on November 2nd, which falls on Thursday. So far, we only know that the phone is neither a note or a book series. Xiaomi clearly says it is a new series, so we call rule out guesses about a new Redmi Note, Mi Note, and any of the existing series like Mix, Max, Mi flagships.
It is not very clear what MIUI 9 could introduce, but the company has posted some odd cartoons from which we know there will be some shortcuts for specific actions. The drawings show a guy using "Lightning Fast" to enable silent mode, reply to a message, and send information. Perhaps MIUI 9 will let users configure shortcuts to the hardware keys, or it may use contextual awareness (machine learning) to let the user respond quickly.
Well, we only have to wait for 3 days to find out. Xiaomi could update its devices to Android 7.0 or 7.1 Nougat, but given the company's poor record for OS updates, we wouldn't bet on it.
