The recent hacking of Snapchat isn’t the only one which affected an online service.
Popular VOIP service Skype’s official accounts on Twitter and Facebook were hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army aka SEA. They also took down the official blog of Skype.
The hackers tweeted from Skype’s account telling Microsoft to stop spying on People.
They also tweeted contact information of Microsoft’s retiring CEO, Steve Ballmer with the following message,
"You can thank Microsoft for monitoring your accounts/emails using this details. #SEA"
Yet another tweet read,
“Don't use Microsoft emails (hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments. More details soon. #SEA"
Similar messages were also posted on their Facebook account.
Microsoft have since removed the Tweets and Facebook posts, but is yet to restore the Skype blog.
The SEA hackers have posted copies of their tweets through their account @Official_SEA16.
The reason behind these attacks is said to be the revelations made last year by former National Security Agency contractor, Edward Snowden. He had revealed that Skype was working with the NSA in spying on people.
Skype’s Twitter account later posted an apology to users saying,
As of yet, Microsoft have not commented on the issue.
