Project Scorpio, the long reported successor to the Xbox One, has been officially launched as Xbox One X, at E2 2017. And here’s what the technical specifications comprise of.
The Xbox One X runs on a 6-teraflop Scorpio engine, which supports 4K UHD resolution, 2160p frame buffers, High Dynamic Range and Wide Color Gamut. Though the Xbox One X is the smallest console from Microsoft, it offers a 40% increase in power. The console is powered by an 8-core custom AMD CPU which runs at 2.3GHz. The console uses liquid cooling to prevent heating, and to suppress noise.
The Xbox One X has 8GB of flash storage, and comes with a 1TB internal HDD. The console has 12GB of GDDR5 RAM with 326 GB/sec memory bandwidth. The device has a 5K UHD Blu-ray optical disc drive, supports HDMI output 2160p @60Hz with AMD FreeSync, and HDR10. Audio wise, it has DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1, TrueHD with Atmos and PCM 2.0, 5.1, and 7.1 The Xbox One X has dual band Wi-Fi (with Wi-Fi direct), and is Bluetooth enabled, and has an ethernet port. The console also has a built-in power supply, an IR blaster and two USB 3.0 ports in the back, and one in the front. The Xbox One X has an optional stand, which can let the console sit horizontally or vertically.
The Xbox One X can play all games from its previous console such as Xbox One games, backwards compatible Xbox 360 games, Xbox Play Anywhere games, Xbox Live and accessories. The new console offers cross-platform integration to play with gamers on the Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. The Xbox One X is compatible with all Xbox One S cables too. Microsoft demoed 42 games at E3 2017, and out of those, 22 are console exclusive.New games which were announced include Forza Motorsport 7, Crackdown 3, Cuphead, Ori and the Will of the Kinds )sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest), Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Super Lucky's Tale, Tacoma , and more. Existing Xbox One games such as Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft, Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy 15, Rocket League, will be upgraded to Xbox One X Enhanced versions.
The Xbox One X has been priced at $499 USD / 449 GBP / 499 EUR / 599 CAD/ 649 AUD, and will be available from November 7th. The bad news is, this negates the leaked $399 price, which in turn, means no price drop for the Sony PS 4. On the bright side, an Xbox One X nets you a free 1TB hard drive, an Xbox wireless controller whose colour matches the console’s, an HDMI cable, a power supply. You also get a 14 day Xbox Live Gold membership, and a 1 month Xbox Game Pass subscription for free with your purchase.
It might look like Microsoft has made a mess again with the naming scheme of the Xbox. Or has it? The XBox One X can be an expansion of the letters XBOX. If so, that is pretty creative.
As far as the India launch of the Xbox One X is concerned, there is no word yet. It is not surprising as Microsoft never launched the Xbox One S in out Country.
