PlayStation 5 could be released in 2018, predicted by analyst who was spot on with PS4 Pro and Slim

Sony could be launching its next gen console in the PlayStation franchise, the PS5, next year. That's according to the Wall Street Journal, which mentions a prediction by Damian Thong, an analyst for Macquarie Capital Securities.

Sony PS4
He has been known for his accurate predictions for the PlayStation 4 Pro and the PS4  Slim variants, so we can expect his latest prediction to be accurate as well.

The PS5 could be announced in the latter half of 2018, and might be released for purchase in the same time period. This is based on Value Walk's observation. It notes that while Sony took 9 months to release the PlayStation 4 after it was announced, the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro were made available sooner, with the Slim being made available for purchase after a week. The PlayStation 5 could be a Sony’s answer to rival Microsoft's long reported Xbox Project Scorpio, which is touted to be powerful than the PS4 Pro.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has already confirmed that Project Scorpio will be unveiled at the E3 conference in June, and that it will support 4K resolution. The rumoured price of the Project Scorpio is $499, and the console will be powered by an octa-core x86 chipset clocked at 2.3 GHz, a 1,172 MHz GPU, 12GB of RAM and will run games at 60fps.

We are very much looking forward to the battle between the Microsoft Xbox Project Scorpio vs the Sony PlayStation 5, and of course price drops for the PS4 and the Xbox One.
