3.2Million Debit Cards Compromised in India

Here is a bad news for Indian ATM Card users. More than 3.2 million ATM cards are compromised due to a malware attack. This includes HDFC, State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI, YES Bank and Axis bank. This includes 2.6 million (26 Lakh) Visa and Master cards and 0.6 million (6 Lakh) RuPay cards.

NPCI Managing Director AP Hota said:

"We have received complaints from banks about debit cards being used in China which aroused suspicion."

A malware affected the Hitachi Payments Services is the reason for this, and the compromised cards are the cards which are used in the ATMs having infected with the malware. The Malware have been detected and security issues are fixed.  The hack happened almost 6 weeks back.

SBI and subsidiary banks like SBT have blocked 6.25 lakh cards as a security precaution and will replace them with new cards. SBI will soon replace the cards. For the cards which have not blocked yet  bank will ask users to change the ATM PIN soon.

How to Change your ATM PIN?

Visit ATM and insert your card, and enter your current pin number. Select PIN change option from the menu. It may ask you to enter your PIN again, if asked enter it. Enter your New PIN and you will have to enter it again to confirm.

What to do I  lost money

Inform your bank about the fraud. Bank will have to pay you the cash you lost with in 10 days. The reserve bank confirms that if the loss is because of the security issues of the bank, bank will have to pay the customer.

Even though your cards may not hacked, we suggest you to change your ATM PIN as soon as possible.
