The game is a 2D platform action adventure, where you play as a steam-powered robot named Rusty. He arrives in a mining town called Tumbleton, in the wild west, and wants to mine for treasure. He will be hindered by enemies and traps, but can gain abilities, and upgrade his tools from the shop on the surface. You can sell mined ore and resources, while managing your supply of water and coal (for light).

The game has various subterranean worlds with their own environment and different types of enemies, with distinctive attack patterns and weaknesses.
