Age of Mythology is a timeless classic, for it blended the brilliant real-time strategy of Age Of Empires, with a mythical twist.
AoM, as it is referred to by fans was originally released in 2002.
About a year later, it received its first expansion pack called, Age of Mythology: The Titans. Fast forward 11 years, to 2014, and the game was revived in the form of a HD version called, Age of Mythology: Enhanced Edition.
Then, a year later in September 2015, Microsoft announced that it would be releasing new expansion for the game with a Chinese theme. This is the Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon.
Like the other factions in the game, Tale of the Dragon also features three major gods: Fu Xi, Nü Wa and Shennong.
The Classical Gods include:
- Chang’e - the Goddess of the Moon
- Sun Wukong - the Monkey King
- Huangdi - the Jade Emperor (Yellow Emperor)
The three minor gods in the new expansion are:
- He Bo - God of the great Yellow River
- Zhong Kui - Ruler of all of the ghosts in Hell
- Dabo Gong - God of soil and land
Microsoft is yet to announce the other six minor gods who will be featured in the new civilizations.
Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon will be released as an expansion for Age of Mythology: Enhanced Edition, which is also available on Steam. AoM EE, however has been criticized for lack of updates, game freezes, and some other issues related to multiplayer for quite a long time. Hopefully, the Forgotten Empires team, will have fixed these issues with the release of Tale of the Dragon.
It is worth noting that the Forgotten Empires team were the developers behind the two expansions (The Forgotten, The African Kingdoms) for Age Of Empires 2 HD.
Microsoft's Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon is scheduled to be released on January 28th on Steam.
