The Redmi Note 5 Pro has just been launched in India, and is the first Redmi device in the Country to sport a display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. In case you are wondering which was the first Xiaomi device to sport an edge-to-edge display, that would be the Mi Mix 2.
A normal Redmi Note 5 variant has been launched too, but the Redmi Note 5 Pro shares a few similarities with it. The Note 5 Pro features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 × 1080 pixels, 2.5D curved glass, in the 18:9 tall form factor, with 450 nits brightness, a contrast ratio of 1500:1, and an 83% NTSC colour gamut. The phone has on-screen butttons to minimize the bezels. The phone runs on MIUI 9.2 which is based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. You weren’t expecting Oreo, were you? This is Xiaomi after all.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by an octa-Core Snapdragon 636 processor (with an Adreno 506 GPU) which has Kryo cores, a first for the Snapdragon 600 series. The Kryo cores are usually found in the Snapdragon 800 series chipsets, used for flagship phones as is the 14nm FinFET process which can deliver better thermal performance and battery life. The Note Pro will be available in two variants of RAM and storage: 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM with 64GB of storage. The Note 5 has a hybrid SIM card system, i,,e, you can use one microSD card slot, or two SIM card slots.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro supports Face Unlock, using AI based scanning. Face Unlock will be added via an OTA Update at the end of March 2018.
The phone has dual rear cameras for Portrait mode, with the lenses placed in a vertical alignment with an LED Flash sits in between the lenses. The cameras comprises of a combination of a 12MP lens Sony IMX486 sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, 1.25μm pixel size, and a 5MP Samsung lens with an f/2.0 aperture and 1.12μm pixel size. The cameras support Electonic Image Stabilization (EIS). The selfie lens on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a 20MP Sony IMX 375 sensor with a selfie light, and supports Portrait mode for selfies. The device has a fingerprint sensor on the back panel. A 4,000 mAh battery is packed with the Note 5 Pro, as a result of which the phone weighs at 181g. In terms of connectivity, the Note 5 Pro supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, and has an Infrared sensor. The phone supports the following network bands: GSM 2/3/5/8, WCDMA 1/2/5/8, 4G FDD-LTE 1/3/5, and 4G TDD-LTE 40/41(120MHz).
Sadly the Redmi Note 5 Pro has a micro USB (2.0) port, instead of USB Type-C. Really Xiaomi? Fortunately this means there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Redmi Note 5 Pro does not support quick charging, it uses a 5.V/2.A charger. The phone has a premium metal body with a tapered back cover.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro has been priced at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant, while the higher variant with 6GB of RAM will retail for Rs. 16,999. The phone will be sold exclusively on Flipkart and Mi Home stores in India. The Redmi Note 5 Pro will be available in 4 colours: Black,Gold, Rose Gold and Blue. The first flash sale of the Redmi Note 5 Pro is scheduled for February 22nd.
