Qualcomm has announced its next generation flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 845. This CPU will reportedly 25% faster than its predecessor, with a clock speed of 2.8GHz and 1.8GHz.
The chipset is based on Samsung’s 10nm process, similar to the Snapdragon 835, and uses a combination of custom ARM Cortex A75 performance and A55 efficiency cores with 2MB L3 cache and 3MB system cache.
The Snapdragon 845 features a new ISP (image signal processor) called the Qualcomm Spectra 280, which can deliver 64x more high-dynamic range color.
The new processor has a new Adreno 630 GPU, which will apparently deliver 30% faster graphics and is 30% more power efficient. And just like the crazy name it came up for “Mobile Platform” instead of processor, Qualcomm has replaced GPU with “Visual Processing Subsystem”.
Snapdragon 845 supports AI (Artificial Intelligence) and VR (Virtual Reality), and will also feature fingerprint, iris, voice, face biometric authentication.
The new chipset has an X20 LTE modem, which is capable of supporting up to 1200 Mbps download speeds, WiFi 802.11 ad 60GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, and has a new Hexagon 685 DSP for the audio.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset will power phones in early 2018. As per early reports, the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be one of the first devices to use the Snapdragon 845 SoC.
