Windows Phone 8.1 update will start rolling out in July

Microsoft has officially confirmed that they will be rolling out the Windows Phone 8.1 Update in July.

The statement came through Microsoft India’s twitter account, where they responded to a user’s query about the new version of the OS.

Here is what the tweet said:

So all users with a Windows Phone 8 device, will be receiving the Windows Phone 8.1 update in a couple of weeks.

We kind of had a hint about this, because the Xolo Win Q900s will be shipping from the second week of July. So, it was easy to guess that Microsoft would be rolling out the OS update, before Xolo and Micromax’s Windows Phone 8.1 devices go on sale.

The future of Windows phone looks to be pretty exciting, because Microsoft had tied up with more OEMs this year, so we can expect plenty more WP devices soon. And we would like to point out that, since Microsoft had made the Windows Phone OS free for all WP devices which have a display 9 inches or under, it is possible that existing Windows 8 devices could get future versions for free. For e.g: Windows 9.

This is just an assumption, but we think it is very much possible.
