WhatsApp has been gradually introducing AI features to its users. Recently, they took a step further by adding a new feature that generates AI images of users themselves.
A while ago, WhatsApp launched Meta AI, a tool that lets users create images from text and chat with the AI for answers to their questions.
A new WhatsApp beta version, spotted by WABetaInfo, includes a feature that allows users to generate images based on their own photos. Version 2.24.14.13 introduces a feature card that explains this function.
According to the info card, WhatsApp requires a single image of the user, like a simple selfie. From that image, the Meta AI Llama model can create different images based on the user’s prompts within the WhatsApp app.
This means you can take a photo of yourself once and then ask Meta AI to generate AI images of you. To create an AI image of yourself, type “Imagine me…” in your Meta AI chat. You can also use this feature in other chats by typing “@Meta AI imagine me…”
The sample images look like typical AI-generated images. However, visualizing yourself in different scenarios could be a fun feature to explore in WhatsApp. If you need professional-looking headshots for your WhatsApp profile picture but don’t have access to a professional photographer, this feature might be a good alternative. You can complete the process either in a chat or in the Meta AI section.
It’s not clear what kind of privacy protections Meta has put in place for this feature. It’s assumed that no one else will be able to generate images of you, and the AI model will only respond to the specific command to create images.
