StarCraft II will be permanently free to play from November 14th, includes Wings of Liberty campaign

Starcraft II is going Free-to-play, according to a pleasantly surprising announcement made by Activision Blizzard. The game is without a doubt, one of the finest RTS games ever made. Don’t worry, there are no IAPs or other micro-transactions for the single-player modes.

starcraft 2 free to play

From November 14th which falls on next Tuesday, you will be able to play StarCraft II for free. But there is a catch. You will only be able to play one of the 3 single player campaigns.

For the price of zero, we really shouldn't be complaining at all. The Wings of Liberty campaign will be complete free to play, as will all multiplayer modes in the game.  The online modes includes units from the other campaigns as well, which is really neat.Current and future co-op commanders will be free up to level 5. And, all three co-op commanders Raynor, Kerrigan and Artanis will be free for all players. This sounds to good to be true, but that is not all.

If you already own the Wings of Liberty campaign, you’ll get the Heart of the Swarm expansion, for free. To get this, you need to log in between November 8 and December 8, to claim it. As someone who owns the base game, I am happy that Blizzard is compensating me by giving me a free expansion.

The Heart of the Swarm, Legacy of the Void, and Nova Covert Ops single player campaigns, will be available for purchase for $14.99 each, or in a single bundle for $39.99,

And while you are it, why not download and play the original Starcraft for free? It includes the Brood War expansion, also for free, and if you like it, you can also get the remastered version of the game for $14.99.
