How to recover and prevent Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)

What is RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury )

In simple medical terms, repetitive strain injury (RSI) is defined as a cumulative trauma disorder (CTD) stemming from prolonged repetitive, forceful, or awkward hand movements. The result is damage to muscles, tendons, and nerves of the neck, shoulder, forearm, and hand, which can cause pain, weakness, numbness, or impairment of motor control.

How can we recover from it ? or How can you prevent it ?

Workrave is a program that assists in the recovery and prevention of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). You can set three types of breaks on this application, micro-pauses, rest breaks and restricts you to your daily limit.  Workrave is a Free program that assists in the recovery and prevention of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). The program  monitors your activity. Using this information, it frequently reminds you to take breaks, and restricts you to your daily limit.

You can set the time for each breaks and also the duration between breaks on the application

Micro pause will be a small break, when you can just rotate your head, close your eye etc. (there will not be any mention from the application though)

Rest break is a bit more lengthier than the micro pause but the frequency will be less. The application will show some relaxation exercises, you can see a sample below.

Daily limit is the total time,

The application track your activities like mouse movements, keyboard stroke or other input operations. It will not popup , or calculate the daily limit time if you are keeping the system idle.
