OnePlus 5 moniker confirmed by listing on Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website

A listing spotted on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), has confirmed the OnePlus 5 moniker, as the next flagship from the much loved OEM. OnePlus is pulling a Samsung, by skipping a number for its phone, but there is a reason for it.

The number 4 in Chinese, and the word death are pronounced exactly the same, and hence is considered an unlucky number in their tradition. Hence, the jump from OnePlus 3 to OnePlus 5. This is also reflected in the model number of the device, which is A5000 (like the OnePlus 3’s A3000).

Here are some of the rumored technical specifications of the OnePlus 5. The OnePlus 5 will purportedly have a Quad HD 2k display which is 5.5 inches in size, and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 825 processor. The device is expected to come in two variants, one with 6GB, and the other with 8GB of RAM, and a 23 MP rear camera which supports OIS, fast flash. The selfie lens is touted to be a 16 MP front camera.

The key difference in the design is the placement of the fingerprint scanner, which will be on the back panel, unlike the last two generation devices from the company. Apparently the device will be slim at around 7mm in thickness, and you know what this means, a smaller battery.
