OnePlus has released an open beta of the Android Oreo Update for the OnePlus 5. And before you ask, no it is not available for the OnePlus 5T yet.

OnePlus 5 Android Oreo Update Open Beta released

The company had released the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo, for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T a week ago. And it did promise that the OnePlus 5 will get the Oreo update before the end of the year.

So, it is likely that OnePlus will use this beta build to get some user feedback, and improve it before the final version is rolled out.

This is the change log for the OnePlus 5 Android Oreo Update Open Beta:

    • Updated to Android O (8.0)
    • Added Picture in Picture
    • Added Auto-fill
    • Added Smart text selection
    • New Quick Settings design
    • Added Parallel Apps
    • Updated security patch to October

    • Launcher
    • Added notification dots
    • New app folder design
    • Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus

You will have to manually flash the Beta version, from the recovery. Instructions for this are available at the official announcement page on the OnePlus forums. Also keep in mind that once the official update is released, you will need to flash the stable version yourself, and that will wipe the data.

Some users say that many icons have changed, including the Bluetooth icon on the status bar, which now displays a bar to indicate the battery level on connected devices. Though this is new for Oreo, ROMs such as LineageOS (based on Nougat) have had the same feature for a long time..
