Official Cyanogenmod 14 for Nexus 7 2013 flo released

Last week, we reported that Cyanogen had released Cyanogemod 14 for some devices. The Android 7.1 based ROM, is now available for a very popular device, the Nexus 7 2013.

The Wi-Fi variant of the tablet, codenamed, Flo, last received an official OS update from Google, with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and was not updated to Nougat. This is because of Google’s EOL (End of Life support policy, normally up to 18 months of updates) for its devices, but it usually ends after 24 months, since the launch date of the device.

So, users will have to rely on custom ROMs for OS updates, despite the device's good hardware specs.  If you wish to try Nougat on your tablet, head to Cyanogenmod's website to download the official Cyanogemod 14.1 ROM for the Nexus 7 2013 flo.

You will need to download GAPPS for the firmware, for which you can use Open GApps.  Take a backup of your data before flashing the firmware, and perform a clean flash to avoid bootloops. Since this is the first version of the ROM, it may have some bugs, so taking a NAND backup is highly recommended.

Hopefully the Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 will get CM 14 soon.
