Microsoft releases a Firmware update to fix Surface Pro 2 battery & sleep mode issues

Microsoft have released a second firmware update for their Surface Pro 2 tablet.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2

The latest update will fix the issues that were introduced  in last month’s update.

Users of the the 10.6 inch tablet had reported that they faced issues with the battery drain, charging problems, and erratic sleep mode behavior on their devices.

Microsoft had acknowledged these issues and pulled the update, but unfortunately some users had already downloaded it.

Microsoft’s PR firm Waggener Edstrom Communications released a statement which said,

“This weekend we released an update that addresses the unexpected wake and battery drain behavior experienced by a small number of Surface Pro 2 customers who installed the December Windows Update. This should have no impact on customers who had not received the December update.”

Users who did not install the December Update will also receive the latest update, which will fix  the following issues:

Battery Draining – The battery was drained quickly.

Charging issues-  The tablet wasn’t charging fully or displaying the status as being charged,

Sleep mode issues- Devices failed to wake up/sleep. And in some cases, the devices were powered off when the cover was closed, instead of switching to sleep mode.

December’s update was the second  instance of a failed update, the first being a Windows 8.1 RT update in October, which caused the devices to freeze. It was the first Surface Pro update to be pulled by Microsoft.
