Microsoft News’ official twitter account, and TechNet blog hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army

After hacking into the Twitter accounts of Microsoft’s Skype, Xbox Support, the Syrian Electronic Army have now broken into the Twitter account of Microsoft News.

Microsoft News Twitter account hacked by SEA

As usual, the SEA left a trail of tweets to prove they hacked it. And the tweets matched the one they posted on Skype’s account on January 2nd.

“Don't use Microsoft emails (hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments. More details soon. #SEA"

They didn’t just stop there, instead they went on to hack the Microsoft News Blog, aka the TechNet blogs.

They left their customary “Syrian Electronic Army Was Here” trails there as well.

Microsoft regained control of the MSFTnews account and its blogs in an hour and cleaned up all the tweets and blog posts that the SEA posted.

This happened a day after the SEA broke into Microsoft Xbox Support’s Twitter and Instagram accounts.

It is very alarming that the SEA are hacking so many Twitter accounts with ease. If they can do it, so can other hackers, Twitter certainly needs to beef up its security.

And Microsoft definitely needs to work on the security of their own accounts, blogs and services.
