And the impending arrival of Micromax’s first foray in the Windows Phone market, could threaten the sales of Nokia.

The closest contender to the Micromax Canvas Win 121, is undoubtedly the Nokia Lumia 630.

How do they fare in terms of technical specifications? Here is a comparison chart that we have created:

Micromax Canvas Win 121 vs Nokia Lumia 630

Micromax Canvas Win 121 vs Nokia Lumia 630 Comparison

Operating System:

Both devices run on Windows Phone 8.1, so there is no winner or loser here.

Display:

The Canvas W121 sports a display that is slightly larger than the Lumia 630’s. The 720p resolution and the pixel density of 294 PPI gives the W121 an edge. However not all features about the display are known yet. The Lumia 630 boasts a display with a wide viewing angle and has special color profiles. It uses ClearBlack display, a technology which reduces reflections,  and thus improves the clarity, which is noticeable even outdoors. The display is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which makes it more durable.

The Lumia 630’s special features could give it an advantage.

Processor and GPU:

The W121 runs on a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 CPU and an Adreno 302 GPU for the graphics, while the Nokia Lumia 630 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, which is faster. The Moto G is powered by a similar processor/GPU combo of the SD 400 and Adreno 305.

So, the winner here is the Lumia 630.

RAM:

The Micromax W121 wins hands down, simply because it has double the memory of the Lumia 630.

Storage:

Both phones have an internal memory of 8 GB. But the Lumia 630, supports micro SD cards upto 128 GB, while the Canvas W121 supports just 32 GB of expandable memory. But, considering the prices of memory cards, it is not likely that users will spring for a 128 GB card. The Lumia 630 will also have more apps installed, thanks to Nokia. So the available internal storage may be even lesser than that on the Canvas W121.

Cameras:

The W121 sports an 8 megapixel snapper which is capable of taking images of 3264 x 2448 pixels, while the 5 megapixel camera on the Lumia 630 can only manage to take photos of 2592 х 1944 pixels. The Lumia 630 lacks a front camera and an LED flash, both of which can be found on the Canvas, which wins again here.

Battery:

The Canvas W121 packs a 2000 mAh battery, while the Lumia 630 is backed by an 1830 mAh battery. Numbers win here.

SIM:

Both the phones have Dual SIM Stand-by. So it is a tie here.

Pricing:

The official price of the Micromax W121 is expected to be Rs. 9,500, which is cheaper compared to the Nokia Lumia 630, which costs Rs. 10,000. This is a rare case, where you will get a better performance for a much lesser price. Canvas W121 wins here.

Conclusion:

On paper, the Micromax Canvas W121 appears to be the better option of the two, thanks to the additional RAM, a slightly larger display with a much better resolution and pixel density, a better camera and support for LED flash, and a larger battery capacity. The only disadvantage, is that the Canvas W121 will not have access to Nokia’s proprietary apps such as HERE Maps, Mix Radio, etc. However the support for Google Maps may still make it usable.

Now, it is up to Micromax to ensure OS updates, and provide good customer service. If they do that, the W121 could sell like hot cakes.
