JioPhone Rs.153 plan has a 500MB data limit per day

Reliance Jio created a revolution yesterday, by announcing the JioPhone, a 4G VoLTE enabled phone for Rs. 1500 (which will be refunded after 3 years when you return the phone), making it an "effectively Free" phone. There were not much details about the plans when it was announced yesterday.

JioPhone Rs.153 plan 500MB data limit per day

But, according to the press release which has been sent out to the media, the Rs.153 plan (and the Rs.24 and 54 plans) do not have true unlimited data. We did question this in yesterday's article, but now we have the official confirmation. The statement says:

There will be a fair usage policy of half a GB per day, to ensure that bandwidth is fairly apportioned for every user.

So, the JioPhone Rs.153 plan has a 500MB data limit per day. So once you have exhausted your 500MB 4G data, it will be reset at 12:00 AM, just like how Jio works on smartPhones.

Speaking of which, how many of you actually use an entire 1GB everyday? Unless you manually download 1GB worth of data, your regular usage like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, etc will normally not even cross 500MB. And the JioPhone does not even have WhatsApp, but it does have an internet browser, so you could use the other services. Jio is targeting the rural market, and for this, 500MB per day should easily be more than enough for the feature phone user.

Thank you Avinash.
