Recently I have received the Amazon Echo dot (India), here are the instructions on how to set it up. First of all you need to install the Amazon Alexa application on your device. iOS users can get from here and Android users can get it from here. I will be showing the screenshots on the Android application.

Open the application on your phone and login to your Amazon account (create one if you don’t have one). You will have to enter the credentials two times to verify.

By default it will be related to your Amazon name. If you want you can change your Amazon Echo device name from the settings.

Change Device name Amazon Echo

Click on that and select the device type

You can choose How your Amazon Echo Dot need to be used, Bluetooth, Audio Cable or No speakers (in-built speakers will be used).  If you are connected via Bluetooth you can connect and disconnect the speaker by just saying “Alexa, connect/disconnect my speaker”

That’s all you are ready to use your Amazon Echo device.
