Google debuts a new logo as part of branding changes

Recently we heard the news of Google getting restructured and the formation of Alphabet Inc. a company which will hold Google, and other related services like Project Loon and Driverless cars etc. Google today has announced a major design change in its logo. The Google logo, which has become a staple identifiable brand now has undergone a facelift. Gone are the old fonts and in are the new sans-serif fonts in line with modern design philosophies. Google does retain the same colour scheme in the logo to not loose the familiar touch.

The branding change will soon be visible across products. Currently Gmail and Google Search both show the new logo. Other products will soon incorporate it. Google says its main motivation to introduce a new logo is because it is no more an Internet Search Engine but is now a tool which helps users and is available in a wide range of products. Google has diversified a lot and thus the logo too is getting a facelift.

Here is what the Official post from Google says:-

So why are we doing this now? Once upon a time, Google was one destination that you reached from one device: a desktop PC. These days, people interact with Google products across many different platforms, apps and devices—sometimes all in a single day. You expect Google to help you whenever and wherever you need it, whether it’s on your mobile phone, TV, watch, the dashboard in your car, and yes, even a desktop!
Today we’re introducing a new logo and identity family that reflects this reality and shows you when the Google magic is working for you, even on the tiniest screens. As you’ll see, we’ve taken the Google logo and branding, which were originally built for a single desktop browser page, and updated them for a world of seamless computing across an endless number of devices and different kinds of inputs (such as tap, type and talk).

So this logo has been dubbed as a mobile logo. It means that this logo will seamlessly transform on various devices to show how Google works on that device. We are yet to see that Google magic in action.
