Google Pixel 2 Muskie, Walleye and Taimen to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835

Google's Pixel 2 Phones, the Muskie, the Walleye and the Taimen,, which are expected to be launched sometime in Q4 2017, will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. This latest leak about the phones, comes straight from the AOSP source code.

The codenames of the spiritual successors to the Pixel and Pixel XL, have been reported multiple times in the past along with the Taimen. But now, the word MSM8998 has appeared in a commit posted at the AOSP website.

MSM8998 is the model number of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. This is the processor which powers the Samsung Galaxy S8, the Samsung Galaxy S8+, and the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 6. Rumours indicate that OnePlus' next gen phone, the OnePlus 5 could also use the Snapdragon 835 SoC.

So it does not come as a real surprise that Google's premium phones will be powered by a similar chip. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 may be available to third-party OEMs now that Samsung has begun shipping the S8 in some regions. Considering that, and the fact that the chipset is mentioned in the source code, could it be possible that Google has a prototype of the Pixel 2 already?

We can never know for sure, but we'll keep an eye out for these rumours.
