Emsisoft have released the stable version of their popular antivirus software, Emsisoft Anti-Malware 9.
Version 9 was in open beta testing for a while, and brings a major UI makeover, making the app aesthetically pleasing.
The software uses Dual Scanning with the Emsisoft and BitDefender engines, to ensure that no infections escape it’s grasp. The real time protection is three layered: Surf Protectipn, File Guard and Behavior Blocker. . Surf protection keeps your browser safe and prevents malicious downloads, while File Guard is the dual scanning engine I mentioned above. The Behavior Blocker scans the behavorial patterns of apps for new threats using the Cloud Detection technology. The update also improves the Behavior Blocker’s performance which results in fewer false positives.
I had been using the beta version for a few weeks, and it was very smooth, though I mainly used it as a scanner, and not it’s real-time protection. The detection rates were top notch, and managed to catch a minor infection that slipped through Eset Smart Security 7, and disabled my Windows Task Manager. It was a harmless trojan, and even though no major harm was done, I am glad that Emsisoft Anti-Malware was able to detect and remove it. I have decided to use it as a backup scanner ever since.
