Diablo II 1.14a patch released after 5 years

Blizzard has released a new patch for its popular hack and slash game, Diablo II, the last patch for which, was released in 2011.

Diablo 2

The game, which was originally launched in 1996, still continues to have millions of fans playing it.

And that is the reason why the now Activisio owned company, has released the new patch after 16 years since the game was released. The official announcement states that there is no new content in patch 1.14a. Instead, it is a compatibility patch, which makes the game run on modern operating systems.

Thought the change-log doesn't mention it, it is likely that Diablo 2 has been patched to work on Windows 10. Mac OS X users have a new installer for Diablo 2.

Blizzard says that it has begun working on its systems to improve its cheat-detection and hack-prevention features. And this is not the only thing under development apparently. Blizzard dropped a clear hint with the following statement:

There is still a large Diablo II community around the world, and we thank you for continuing to play and slay with us. This journey starts by making Diablo II run on modern platforms, but it does not end there. See you in Sanctuary, adventurers.

Last year, some gamers found a job listing, posted by Blizzard, which mentioned a developer for "Diablo 2". It is likely that it hired some people to work on the patch, though many people speculate that a new remastered version of Diablo II could be released in the future.
