British Pathé , a newsreel maker which functioned from 1910 to 1970, have uploaded their entire collection of videos on to YouTube.
The total number of videos in their archives total a whopping 85,000.
The Pathé News archive was founded in Paris in 1896 by Frenchman, Charles Pathé. The British Pathé was founded 14 years later, in 1910 in London. Their videos include events from across the globe from News, Sports, Travel, Culture, Fashion, etc. You can even find footage of the Royal Family, the Titanic among other prominent historical videos.
The General Manager of the British Pathé, Alastair White said that they decided to upload the videos to YouTube to make the videos accessible to anyone who has a computer.
Our hope is that everyone, everywhere who has a computer will see these films and enjoy them,” White, said. “This archive is a treasure trove unrivalled in historical and cultural significance that should never be forgotten. Uploading the films to YouTube seemed like the best way to make sure of that.”
