BSNL have introduced a set of special data packages for Facebook users, who do not have a mobile internet connection.
The State owned telecom firm, has tied up with U2opia Mobile to provide this service using USSD technology (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) (USSD). The data plans have already been launched in the East and South zones, while the West and North zones have to wait for a while.
The term USSD may not be familiar to you, but the service certainly would be. Remember the pop-up messages you receive, after you make a call? Those are USSD status messages.
BSNL are going to imply the technology, to allow users to access their accounts and perform all the basic functions on the social network like posting your status, responding to friend requests, writing on your friend’s wall, view reminders, send messages, etc., without any data connection whatsoever.
The rates and validity periods for the various plans are as follows:
- Rs 4 – 3 Days
- Rs 10 – 1 Week
- Rs 20 – 1 Month
While it doesn’t seem like much, Facebook junkies will find it very economical. On a side, this service will work on any phone. So you aren’t restricted by your device, or the Operating System on it.
