The Android Distribution Numbers for September 2017 are out, and it brings good news for Nougat. Android 7.0+ has managed a small climb from 13.5% to 15.8% in a month.
While that may not be impressive, it is worth noting that all other Android versions had their numbers drop. Android Marshmallow 6.0+ still sits atop the charts with over double the shares, with 32.2% after dropping just 0.1% since August 2017. Android Lollipop saw a slightly higher fall, as it dropped by about 0.4% to stay at the third place with 28.8% now, which sadly is also past Nougat. At the fourth place on the charts, is KitKat which has 15.1% of shares, after a 0.9% drop, which by the way is the biggest drop of the month. Meanwhile Jelly Bean saw a 0.7% decrease which brought it down to 6.9%.
Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich dropped from 0.7% to 0.6%. Android 8.0 Oreo has not debuted yet, so we can only assume that it has not crossed the 0.1% distribution requirement yet. That can be attributed to the fact that no other device manufacturer has updated their device to Oreo, except Google which has updated some of the Nexus and Pixel devices.
