Android 6.0 Marshmallow is two years old, and has finally managed to dethrone KitKat, to gain second place, in the Android Distribution Numbers, for December 2016.
Andorid 7.0 Nougat, which debuted in the Android Distribution charts a month ago, saw its numbers increase fractionally, from 0.3% in November to 0.4% in December. Google has released Android 7.1.1 Nougat today, for its Nexus and Pixel devices. HTC and Motorola are among the few (if not the only OEMs), to update some of their devices to Android 7.0 Nougat. So, we may expect the newer Android operating system to fare better, in January 2017, after more OEMS out updates for their Phones.
Lollipop still adorns the crown with a massive 34% of shares, and only saw a mere 0.1% fall in a month. The second placed, Marshmallow gained 2.3% sitting at 26.3% of shares.
KitKat took a break from its longstanding second position, and crumbled to the third spot with 24.0%, after losing 1.2% shares.
Jelly Bean fell from 13.7% to 12.8%, while Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread lost 0.1% shares apiece to drop to 1.2%. Froyo somehow stood the test of time, and finished the year with 0.1%, a spot it has held for a long time.
