TRAI fined Airtel, Vodafone, Idea - 50 crore per circle for denying interconnection to Jio

Airtel, Vodafone, Idea for denied interconnection to Jio

TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) heavily fined the telecom operators Bharati Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea for not providing sufficient interconnection points to JIO.

During the launching function Ambani said that Jio was facing a huge number of call failures to the other networks due to the lack of interconnection points.  TRAI now fined a total of 3050 Crore from these operators, 50 crores per LSA (circle).

Airtel and Vodafone will have to pay a penalty of 1050 Crores (21 circles) and 950 crores for the Idea (19 circles).

However, the authority is mindful of the fact that revocation of the license will entail significant consumer inconvenience and therefore in view of the larger public interest involved, the authority recommends a penal action of Rs 50 crore per LSA (circle),

Says the Email from TRAI.
