OnePlus 3 OxygenOS 3.5.5 Community Build brings new calling UI, appdrawer less homescreen (optional), FileDash and more

OnePlus has released a new beta version of its OxygenOS for OnePlus 3, with the 3.5.5 Community Build. There are few good changes, and a few bad ones too.

OnePlus 3 OxygenOS 3.5.5 Community Build update

The company did announce earlier this year that it had merged the teams who develop Oxygen OS & Hydrogen OS, but had said the UI's would retain their looks. But it appears that the Chinese OEM is moving away from the stock Android look, towards its HydrogenOS UI.

This is very noticebale with the new launcher layout, which you can change to by long pressing the home screen > settings > switch layout. There are two options here, a Standard layout (with icons) and a simplified layout (home screen without app drawer) like MIUI.

But this is completely optional, and we hope it stays this way.

There is a new full screen calling UI, which displays the contact's picture. Speaking of contacts, you can now set personalized ringtones for each contact, view entire call history of a selected contact. The OxygenOS 3.5.5 Community Build comes with the OnePlus Community App, which is basically for browsing and posting feedback at the official forums. The built-in Filemanager now has a new wireless file transfer option called, FileDash, using which you can transfer files between devices. The messaging app now lets you share your location with the contact.

Now the bad things. Users have reported that the accent colors are still looking washed out, and that the update does not bring the November Android security patch. OxygenOS 3.5.5 Community Build comes with the October 1st security patch. Some users have complained that the permissions are not working correctly, and that all apps now have "all permissions" enabled.

You can update to the OxygenOS 3.5.5 Community Build by downloading the entire ROM and flashing it, or using the OTA which is about 331 MB (when updating from the previous build).
