The longest and darkest total lunar eclipse of the century

Tomorrow June 15  Africa and Central Asia will see the Longest and Darkest Lunar eclipse of this century. The total eclipse will last more than 100 minutes.The eclipse will begin at 23:52:56 IST and end at 03:32:15 IST.  Such an eclipse will occur only after 130 years only (2141).

"The lunar eclipse on June 15 is the longest and darkest total lunar eclipse that will occur in the 21st century, and will not be surpassed in duration until 2141. So, we are trying our best to popularise the event," Nehru Planetarium Director N Rathnasree told PTI.

In eclipses visible from India, the last time the Moon passed through such a dark part of the Earth's umbra was 40 years ago, on August 6, 1971
