The New Office application is a combination of Word, Excel and power point applications. Now instead of having individual applications you just need one app. It also integrated the Microsoft Office Lens features which allows you to scan a hard copy document/image and convert it into documents. In short it is a complete suite you need.

Adding new functionality for common tasks people often encounter when working on a phone—things like making quick notes, signing PDFs, scanning QR codes, and transferring files between devices.
Microsoft also says in the future updates they are adding the features like word dictation, Excel Cards view, outline to PowerPoint, etc.
