Windows 8.1 Update 1 rumored to start rolling out on April 1

Microsoft had announced at the Mobile World Congress that they would be releasing the Windows 8.1 Update 1 in April.

Windows 8.1 update 1

Though they hadn't given a concrete date for the release, Windows information leaker, Wzor, has claimed that Microsoft will be rolling out the  Update on April 1st, even before the BUILD Developer Conference begins.

However the update will not be available for all users before April 8th, alongside other updates on Patch Tuesday. So we can assume that it will be a staged roll out.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 will feature the following

  • Title bar at the top of Windows Store apps.
  • Power and search buttons on the Start Screen
  • Lower hardware requirements: 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage
  • Better support for Keyboard and Mouse

In addition to this the metro apps are also rumored to have an option to be “minimized” like normal Windows Software.

Microsoft are also expected to unveil information regarding Windows 9, which is rumored to be headed for an RTM release by the end of this year.

We will keep you posted when the update is live, and sincerely hope that April 1st date is not a Fool’s Day joke.
