Diablo III Rise of the Necromancer teaser showcases new class’ skills, to be launched in 2nd half of 2017

Diablo II fans rejoice, the beloved Necromancer, will rise from the depths later this year, in Diablo III. The 7th Class in the game, will make his/her way 4 years after the game was launched. Yes you will be able to play as a female Necromancer, just like you can the other classes.

Diablo III Rise of the Necromancer

The Class which will arrive on PTR (Patch Test Realm) for testers, is quite similar to Diablo II's version of the hero, not just in appearance, but also in skills. Corpse Explosion, Blood Golem, Bone Spear, Summon Skeletons, are among spells which make a return, and there are plenty of new skills too like Siphon Blood, Blood Rush and the following.

Grim Scythe - Summons a huge scythe which attacks in a wide arc, which in turn restores Essence. Basic skill.
Devour - Regain health from fallen foes
Blood Nova - Death Nova skill, which uses essence and health to do damage. Ouch
Leech - Gain health from enemies and also give it to allies

The Necromancer will have class specific items, such as the class-specific scythe in their main hand, and also special set of legendaries and set items.

As a big fan of the Diablo series, and someone who does have Diablo 3 on his PC, I cannot wait for the Necromancer to arrive. But will the Necromancer class be free for those who already have the Reaper of Souls expansion? This is something which Blizzard has not answered directly. The official Necromancer update page suggests that there will be two updates released. One which is a free content patch with 2 new zones, Challenge Rift, etc, which will be free for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls or the Ultimate Evil Edition players.

The other content pack, called the Rise of the Necromancer has the following:

  • Necromancer Class
  • In-game pet
  • Cosmetic wings
  • 2 additional character slots
  • 2 additional stash tabs (PC)
  • Portrait frame
  • Pennant
  • Banner
  • Banner sigil

Now, this can't possibly be free, can it? Blizzard has an FAQ question which asks how much will the pack cost, to which the given reply is that the studio is not ready to announce a price yet. But we think the Necromancer will be part of a paid expansion, just like how the Crusader was in the Reaper of Souls. Another reason we are sure that the Rise of the Necromancer will not be free is because, the YouTube trailer for the expansion clearly mentioned the following in the description.

The Rise of the Necromancer pack will go on sale in 2017, including the Necromancer playable class,.....

We will have to wait until the official launch Rise of the Necromancer, before jumping to criticism.
