BioShock is a game well known for combining an FPS (first person shooter) with RPG (role playing game) elements. Basically you can choose to upgrade your character/weapons etc, to a certain extent. In fact, for me I think it was the inspiration behind the Borderlands franchise, which is also made by the same developer, 2K Games.
BioShock was released almost a decade ago, in 2007, for Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Mac OS X and was succeeded BioShock 2 in 2010. The games' graphics haven't aged well, despite their fantastic gameplay. They are easily outdone by modern games, and 2K knows that very well, which is why it announced remastered editions of the two games, in June this year.
The remake is called BioShock: The Collection and features BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite, with all the DLCs and the singleplayer content.
The multiplayer part of BioShock 2 will not be evailable in the remastered version. It's also worth noting that even though BioShock Infinite, which was released in 2013, is part of BioShock: The Collection, it will not be remastered for PC because it already has console quality graphics. It will include a director's commentary in all three games, "Imagining BioShock", which features Ken Levine, who directed the series, and Shawn Robertson, the lead designer. The remastered versions of BioShock support Full HD 1080p resolutions @60 fps (frames per second) on all platforms
How to get BioShock: The Collection for free if you own the older version of the games:
Owners of the PC versions of BioShock and BioShock 2 (with or without Minerva's Den DLC) will be able to get the remastered version of the respective games for free.

BioShock 2 owners will get BioShock 2 remastered
BioShock 2: Minerva’s Den owners will get BioShock 2: Minerva’s Den remastered
- If you bought the games on Steam, the remastered versions of the games will be available in your Steam Library automatically.
- If you own a physical copy of BioShock, you will have to contact 2K Games support from this page, to get a free Steam key for the remastered version.
- If you own BioShock 2 Games for Windows Live digital copy, you need to use the GFWL key and activate it on Steam.
