Appgratis, a popular app discovery platform which gives away premium Android and iOS apps for free, has shut down. The France based company announced the news on its website today, and sent emails to its users informing the same.
The announcement post says that Appgratis' team, is now moving towards a new project, and has decided to to focus all its efforts on it. Hence, the decision to abandon the giveaway service. the post is quite honest too, and Appgratis admitted it was not working as well as it used to. I can remember the neat time limited giveaways of the odd music player or live wallpapers, which were quite nice. It was also a great way for developers to market their apps and games to the world, even the free ones were often quite innovative.
It is sad to see such a good service bring down the shutters, but it also highlights how competitive the start-up world is. And honestly, despite the bad news, there is something positive to take from it, the fact it did did stand the test of time during its 7 years of service, is a landmark achieved, so, kudos to that.
