Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T rolls out as OxygenOS 5.0

OnePlus is rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T today. The new firmware arrives in the form of OxygenOS 5.0.

OxygenOS 5.0 Android Oreo Update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T
This is not a beta build, it is the official Android O OTA update. To be honest, we are pleasantly surprised too, because the OnePlus 5 is yet to get the Oreo update. Kudos OnePlus. The above screenshot is from Reddit user sumitbahl, and it says the update is about 1490MB to download.

The Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T adds Parallel Apps, which allows you to run two copies of the same app, such as 2 WhatsApp apps which you can use with Dual SIM Cards.

Other features from Oreo, such as Picture in Picture, Auto-Fill (for apps like LastPass password manager), Smart text selection, Notification Dots and Bew Folder Design for the launcher, are also available in the updated OS. There is a new Quick Settings design, and an option to upload photos directly to the Shot on OnePlus online album. Surprisingly though, the firmware only has the September security patch. It’s not bad though, as a previous update has already patched the KRACK issue.

OnePlus 3 OxygenOS update

We have not received  the update on our friend’s OnePlus 3 yet, but we are monitoring it for the update notification. But as OnePlus says, the update is being rolled out incrementally, and will reach to more users in a few days.
