OnePlus CEO confirms Snapdragon 835 for the OnePlus 5, promises better touch latency & a new OS feature

OnePlus is well known for creating hype for its products, but it is taking it to a new level this time. The company's CEO, Pete Lau too to its official forums to discuss the upcoming flagship device.

OnePlus 5 Qualcomm snapdragon 835

And he said that OnePlus is "proud to announce the OnePlus 5 will feature the Snapdragon 835 processor". It comes as no surprise really, but it is nice to have a confirmation that the OnePlus 5 will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset.

Lau was bold to address a very commonly reported issue amongst OnePlus buyers, touch latency. He said that the company's engineers used an unconventional method to solve the issue, by using a special high-speed camera, for tracking the screen movements and to measure input speeds. The results were used to make apps respond faster to touch.

A new OS level feature is heading to OxygenOS, which will allow the OnePlus 5 to start up with your most frequently apps at the ready, while other apps will be deprioritized, to prevent issues with the performance. It is unclear whether this advanced doze mode (which we think it will be), is an optional setting.

We still don’t have a concrete launch date for the OnePlus 5 yet. But from this announcement, it doesn’t sound too far away. Our guess is that the company is doing a Samsung, in that it wants to make sure that the OnePlus 5 is available in plenty.

Update:

Qualcomm has also confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will be powered by a Snapdragon 835. And more importantly it says the device is coming soon.
